The Painted Garden by Gabby Malpas – Now Showing
About the exhibition
I’ve always loved the gardens of all types. To me, they are magical places that provide a welcome respite from the world and troubles. As I am a studio painter who strives for her arrangements to be plausible many of my garden images are of plants and flowers arranged in a variety of Chinese porcelain – a nod to my heritage and of my training as a potter.
During this time of unprecedented uncertainty, I hope you find solace and beauty in my collection of painted gardens and flora.

About the artist
Gabby Malpas is a New Zealand artist based in Sydney. Her work could be interpreted as purely decorative. By using allusion and symbolism, she weaves stories into her work based on her experiences as trans-racial, Asian adoptee: a joyful and chaotic assemblage of blooms and fruit displayed with a collection of ceramics from anywhere and everywhere but with a narrative that draws the viewer in for a second look.
